Where the road ends, adventure begins.

Wind

Whether you’re into kiting, wing foiling or windsurfing, La Ventana is an endless windy playground. The bay’s shape is great for beginners while also delivering exciting conditions for intermediate and expert riders. Todo Bien offers an easy beach launch, making access to the water quick and convenient.

To arrange lessons, email us before your stay and we’ll connect you with trusted local instructors. We recommend booking at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability.

The primary wind season runs November through April, with the strongest and most consistent winds typically November 15–March 15. Wing and foil riders can expect rideable conditions across an even wider range of dates.

Winter water temperatures average 21–25°C (70–74°F). A 4/3 wetsuit is recommended for longer sessions in January and February, while a 3/2 works well most days. From March through November, warmer water means a shorty or swimsuit is usually sufficient. Experienced riders rarely use booties, though beginners may prefer them for added comfort.

Ocean

The Sea of Cortez is the most biologically diverse body of water on earth

including the widest variety of whales and dolphins.

Snorkel & Stand Up Paddling (SUP)

Todo Bien offers complimentary paddle boards, kayaks, and snorkel gear directly in front of the hotel. Mornings and summer months typically bring clear, calm water, ideal for exploring and observing marine life. We recommend paddling north first for an easier return with the wind at your back.

We’ll set it up and you’ll get picked up on the beach in front of the hotel. Ask about pre-packaged lunches and coolers to take on the boat.

Whales

On any given day, whales, dolphins, turtles, and rays migrate through La Ventana Bay. Join a day trip with a local guide and watch for blue, fin, sperm, and humpback whales, along with orcas and other species. Our team will arrange the boat and captain, with beach pickup directly in front of the hotel.

Swimming with Orcas

La Ventana is one of only two places in the world where swimming with orcas is legally permitted.

A small number of locally operated boats carry the proper permits to take people out to respectfully observe these animals. While encounters are never guaranteed, La Ventana’s calm, crystal-clear blue waters and warm ocean temperatures, especially in summer, offer an extraordinary opportunity to witness orcas in their natural environment.

E-foiling & Boat Towing

On calm mornings or non-windy days, e-foil rentals and towing sessions offer the perfect way to refine your foiling skills. E-foiling or boat-foiling is an ideal introduction to wing foiling, helping you build balance and confidence on the foil before adding wind to the experience.

Land

You’ll be charmed by local culture, awed by scenic mountains, and calmed by the desert   landscape. The area boasts an incredible network of trails and over 100 species of cacti alone.

Mountain Biking

Explore 70+ miles of bike trails using the Trailforks app for easy navigation. We can recommend local rental shops and encourage you to consider an e-bike to cover more terrain. Southern trails are well-suited for beginner to intermediate riders, while northern routes offer more advanced riding. For an all-day guided experience, look at Rancho Cacachilas.

The trailhead is a 15–20-minute drive from the hotel, and the hike typically takes 2–3 hours self-guided. The trailhead location can be found on Trailforks.

Day Trips

Here’s a partial list of the many day trips available:

Mule Rides:

Rancho Cacachiles, about a 20 minute drive from the hotel, offers mule rides for all ages, followed by a farm to table lunch.

Giant Cardón Forest:

Drive approximately 30 minutes south around the bay to find a Forest of Giant Cardón  cacti, the tallest growing cacti in the world, only found in Baja California and Sonora. These massive Cardóns have tapped into an aquifer. They have heights over 60 feet, weigh up to 25 tons and can live over 300 years. Finding the forest of giant cardóns can be tricky. Driving out of La Ventana, take a left toward Los Planes (instead of a right toward La Paz). Drive through the town of Los Planes and when the road begins to curve left around the bay, continue straight onto a dirt road instead of curving left. Then take your first right on another dirt road and drive south for about 10 minutes and you will start seeing the giants.

Swim with the Whale Sharks:

For a unique full-day experience, travel 45 minutes by car to La Paz and snorkel with the world’s largest fish. Whale Sharks can reach lengths of more than 40 feet and live up to 70 years. Juvenile whale sharks come to the Bay of La Paz from October to February each year. Swimming with whale sharks is a safe activity for all ages. Let the front desk help arrange this activity for you.

Lighthouse Beach:

Venture across the bay to discover Lighthouse Beach, a beautiful, uncrowded stretch of coastline perfect for a refreshing swim. To get there, turn left onto the main road and follow it to the end, then turn left again. Continue through the town of Los Planes, staying left as the road winds around the bay. After about 25 minutes, you’ll see a guard gate on your left. Turn there and follow the dirt road all the way to the lighthouse and the water.

Balandra Bay:

Just beyond La Paz, Balandra Bay is consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world. Pristine white sand meets calm, crystal-clear water, creating ideal swimming conditions, especially for families, thanks to the bay’s shallow, protected shoreline. Arrive early, as visitor numbers are sometimes capped. When wading in shallow water, always remember to shuffle your feet along the sand to allow rays time to move and avoid accidental contact.

El Triunfo:

About a 45-minute drive from the hotel, El Triunfo is a historic mining town tucked into the mountains of Southern Baja. Once nearly forgotten, this charming village is enjoying a quiet renaissance, with beautifully restored colonial buildings, small museums, inviting cafés and restaurants, and the occasional lively festival that brings its storied past back to life.
